It is with pleasure that I announce that Butch, Jomaldun Rum N Ice, has now gone over to the tracking side of work.

Butch passed his first tracking trial on 22nd September 2013 with a grading of good.  Considering this breed is not known for its strength of nose (yes it is there but just not well known for it) I am extremely proud of this boy passing this trial.  I really wasn't sure he was ready as we had hit the wall (so to speak) a few weeks prior to the trial whereupon he wouldn't put the nose down and smell.  I resorted to every method known to me and those suggested to get him going.  It worked.  My motto is always enter the trial or show, you can always scratch if need be but you can't get a late entry.   So we turned up on a rainy Sunday morning in order to do our first trial.  We were the first dog on the mat so off we went and I needn't have bothered about bringing my nerves with me. He went so well, over fallen trees, down a ditch or two, always remembering however Lesley's words "trust your dog".  Trust him I did and on our last turn I saw my track layer in front behind the bush and he and I knew exactly we were going right. When he got close to the bush where my tracklayer was hiding, he didn't go around the bush but went straight through it.  Lucky for the 30 foot lead as I was able to go around.

Was I proud - hell yes I sure was.

As part of the Advanced Tracking Club, Butch and I were able to participate in  a demonstration given to the public as part of the Dogs Day Out in Kelmscott on 13th October 2013.  What a great day to showcase our lovely dogs and to make people aware of our different breeds and that they can be used for much more than what history dictates.

It was a great day and I hope lots of people took home different ideas about dogs.

THIS PAGE IS MADE FOR MY SPECIAL BOY, BUTCH A.K.A. JOMALDUN RUM N ICE.

BUTCH WAS BORN DEAF AND, THEREFORE, UPON DISCOVERING THIS I DECIDED NOT TO SHOW HIM ANYMORE AFTER HAVING SOME WINS IN THE BABY RING.

AFTER TRYING TO HOME HIM, UNSUCCESSFULLY, I THOUGHT "WELL WE'LL TRY SOME OBEDIENCE TRAINING".   HE IS GOING REALLY WELL IN THIS DISCIPLINE AND I HOPE TO GET TO TRIAL HIM ONE DAY IN THE FUTURE.  THIS, I'M SURE, IS GOING TO TAKE A LOT OF TIME AND A LOT OF PATIENCE BUT I THINK HE IS WORTH IT.  WHEN HE IS IN THE MOOD, HE HAS "FOCUS" BY THE BUCKET LOADS.

I'VE THEREFORE MADE THIS PAGE FOR BUTCH TO PUT HIS PHOTOS ON OF HOW HE IS PROGRESSING WITH HIS TRAINING.  I HOPE YOU ENJOY LOOKING AT THESE PHOTOS AND SEEING JUST HOW SPECIAL HE IS.

THE FACT THAT HE KEPT COMING BACK TO ME, THROUGH NO FAULT OF HIS OWN, MEANS WE ARE MEANT TO BE TOGETHER.  HE GIVES 100% OF HIMSELF TRYING TO PLEASE OTHERS.
